In just one month, August arrives and global observances of Black Philanthropy Month begin!

Black Philanthropy Month (BPM 2015) is an unprecedented, coordinated initiative to strengthen African American and African-descent giving in all its forms.

News in 2015 seems an unrelenting series of tragedies, injustices and conflicts, mixed with a few moments and events that restore hope and resound as calls to action. This year, August can’t come soon enough.

My wish is that BPM 2015 provides us all with time to connect, celebrate, learn, reflect, renew, give and heed the call (whatever yours might be) amid a season of change and progress as “lovers of humankind”. In collaboration with Jackie Copeland-Carson of the Pan African Women’s Philanthropy Network, Tracey Webb of BlackGivesBack.com and others, I look forward to hearing about and amplifying STORIES of generosity, IDEAS for social change, LEADERSHIP on issues, SERVICE to others, DONATIONS to important causes AND MORE.

‘Keep going, no matter what’

Today is the last day of Black History Month and I have the pleasure of traveling to NYC for a special event on Black Philanthropy hosted by BlackGivesBack.com and JPMorgan.

For the event I will have the joy of interviewing author Christina Lewis Halpern, daughter of the late business titan Reginald Lewis. Christina recently published her memoir Lonely at the Top about her life and experiences as the daughter of a highly successful and acclaimed entrepreneur, attorney and philanthropist who died too early. Strengthening, Connecting Black Communities

One week from today on December 5th, I have the privilege of sharing stories, experiences and lessons from the New Generation of African American Philanthropists giving circle and our Giving Back Project with members and guests of the Black Philanthropic Alliance (BPA) during its annual meeting in Washington, DC. Time with friends, colleagues and kindred spirits at the BPA event will be a treat given our common efforts to address community issues, collectively, through work, wealth and wisdom.

I’m also excited about being a part of a program that will honor Tracey Webb, founder of The Black Benefactors giving circle and the blog BlackGivesBack.org. Tracey deserves recognition and applause for her pathbreaking work to profile Black philanthropy, online, to a wide national audience and for her leadership on grantmaking through her giving circle.

BPA is a network of professionals in philanthropy and nonprofits who identify, manage and influence investments and resources to strengthen and connect the Black community in the Washington, DC region.

The membership of BPA supports donors and nonprofit organizations through a variety of channels, including:
